Across Great Britain the national car pass rate is 50.1%. Rural centres consistently sit above it and dense urban centres below, largely because of the roads on their test routes rather than the examiners. You can compare every centre on the pass rates page.

How long is the wait for a driving test?

The average wait between booking a car test and taking it is 12.1 weeks as of June 2026. DVSA releases test slots 24 weeks ahead, so waits at the busiest centres cluster near that ceiling while quieter centres can be a fortnight.

Can I book a test at any centre in Great Britain?

Yes. There is no catchment area for the practical test — you can book at any DVSA centre regardless of where you live. Many learners travel to a quieter centre for a shorter wait, though you will be tested on roads you have not practised on.

Every figure comes from DVSA statistical tables DRT122A (pass rates by centre and month) and DRT122F (test availability and waiting times), published on GOV.UK under the Open Government Licence. Nothing here is estimated.
